The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 9:32 a.m., in room 256-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Lise Bacon, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Bacon, Biron, Callbeck, Jaffer, LaPierre, Phalen and Spivak (8).

In attendance: Joseph Dion, Researcher for the Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters for the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on June 5, 2001, the Committee proceeded to study Bill S- 26. (See Issue No. 31, Tuesday, June 4, 2002 and Wednesday, June 5, 2002, for full text of the Order of Reference.)

WITNESS:

From the Senate of Canada:

The Honourable Mira Spivak, Senator.

Senator Spivak made a presentation and answered questions.

At 10:45 a.m., it was agreed — That the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Bacon, Biron, Jaffer, Phalen and Spivak (6).

In attendance: Joseph Dion, Researcher for the Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: Reporters for the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on September 26, 2001, the Committee proceeded with the examination of issues facing the intercity busing industry. (See Issue No. 21, Monday, February 11, 2002, Tuesday, February 12, 2002, Wednesday, February 13, 2002, for full text of the Order of Reference.)

WITNESSES:

From the National Advisory Council on Aging:

Ms Patricia Raymaker, Chairperson;

Ms Louise Plouffe, Manager, Knowledge Development Section, Division of Aging and Seniors, Health Canada.

Ms Raymaker made a presentation and together, witnesses answered questions.

At 6:18 p.m., it was agreed — That the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.
