The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day in camera, pursuant to rule 92(2)(f) for the purpose of consideration of its draft interim report, in room 705, Victoria Building, at 9:15 a.m., the Chair, the Honourable Senator Donald H. Oliver, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chalifoux, Fairbairn, P.C., Hubley, Oliver, Ringuette and Wiebe. (6)
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Lori Srivastava and Frédéric Forge.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 31, 2002, the committee began to consider the impact of climate change on Canada's agriculture, forests and rural communities and the potential adaptation options focusing on primary production, practices, technologies, ecosystems and other related areas. (For a complete text of Order of Reference see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1)
The committee reviewed its draft interim report.
The Honourable Senator Chalifoux moved, — That the committee permit transcripts to be taken of its in camera meeting of May 26; and
— That the transcripts be made available only to the Members of the Committee, to the Clerk of the Committee and to the research officers assigned to the committee by the Library of Parliament; and
— That the Clerk of the Committee be instructed to dispose of the copies of these transcripts including electronic recording upon tabling of the interim report.
The question being put on the motion, — it was agreed.
At 10:25 a.m., the sitting was adjourned.
At 10:40 a.m., the sitting was resumed.
At 12:25 p.m. the sitting was adjourned.
At 1:07 p.m., the sitting was resumed.
It was agreed that Senator Fairbairn replace Senator Wiebe on the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure for the week of June 2, 2003.
At 2:25 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

It was agreed, — That the committee adopt the draft interim report upon feedback from Senators Fairbairn and Wiebe.
It was agreed, — That the Interim Report be entitled: ``Climate Change: We Are At Risk.''
It was agreed, — That the Steering Committee be empowered to make editorial and grammatical changes without changing the content.
At 10:20 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
