The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day, at 12:00 p.m. in room 172-E Centre Block, the Deputy Chair, the Honourable J. Michael Forrestall, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Atkins, Banks, Cordy, Day, Forrestall, Meighen and Wiebe (7).
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Grant Purves and Grant Dawson, Analysts; Till Heyde, Clerk; Sandeep Mukerji, Legislative Clerk, Veronica Morris, Communications Officer.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 the committee commenced its study of BillC-411, An Act to establish Merchant Navy Veterans Day.
It was moved by the Honourable Senator Day, — That the Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs be authorised to examine,consider clause-by-clause, and report to the committee on Bill C-411, An Act to establish Merchant Navy Veterans Day, which was referred to the Committee by the Senate on Tuesday, June 17, 2003.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 12:04 p.m., the committee suspended its sitting.
At 12:43 p.m., the committee resumed its sitting.
The Honourable Senator Meighen, Chair of the Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs reported that the Subcommittee has examined Bill C-411, An Act to establish Merchant Navy Veterans Day, and recommended that the committee report the Bill to the Senate without amendment.
The Honourable Senator Meighen moved, — That the report be adopted.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 12:45 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
