Proceedings of the Standing Senate Committee on
National Security and Defence
Issue 24 - Evidence of October 1, 2003
OTTAWA, Wednesday, October 1, 2003
The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 12:52 p.m. to consider a draft budget.
Senator Colin Kenny (Chairman) in the Chair.
[English]
The Chairman: Honourable senators, I would ask the committee clerk to speak to the item before us today.
Ms. Barbara Reynolds, Clerk of the Committee: Honourable senators, you have before you a report of a proposed budget from the Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs. It has been submitted for the approval of the main committee, after which it will go before the Internal Economy Committee.
The Chairman: Senator Meighen, would you care to move the budget report?
Senator Meighen: I would be glad to move the motion on this modest budget of $24,750.
The Chairman: I understand it was reduced from the original amount.
Senator Meighen: It was indeed. Committee members were cognizant of the need to keep expenses to a minimum, which we have done. This budget will carry us through until the end of the current fiscal year, March 31, 2004.
The Chairman: It is reassuring to see a committee chair plan to the end of a fiscal year.
Senator Day: That is subject to the mandates that we might receive, of course.
The Chairman: Is there any discussion on this budget, honourable senators? Do we have a motion?
Senator Meighen: I so move.
The Chairman: Those in favour? Those opposed? Abstentions?
Motion carried.
The committee adjourned.
