The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met at 5:10 p.m. this day, in room 257 East Block, the Honourable Tommy Banks, Chair, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Banks, Buchanan, P.C., Christensen, Cochrane, Finnerty, Milne, Spivak and Watt (8).

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Lynne Myers, Researcher, Science and Technology Division.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee proceeded to the consideration of a draft agenda.

It was agreed, — That the Chair seek permission from the Senate, in accordance with rule 95(3)(a), to sit two days during the summer, on dates to be determined later by the members.

At 5:20 p.m., pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 7, 2002, the committee continued its examination of emerging issues related to its mandate (implementation of the Kyoto Protocol). WITNESSES:

David Poch, Member, Board of Directors.

From B.C. Hydro — Power Smart:

Ted Ferguson, Environmental Coordinator and Greenhouse Gas Management.

Mr. Poch made a statement and answered questions.

At 6:25 p.m., the committee suspended its sitting.

At 6:30 p.m., the committee resumed its sitting.

Mr. Ferguson made a statement and answered questions.

At 7:20 p.m., pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 25, 2003, the committee continued its examination of Bill S-10, An Act concerning personal watercraft in navigable waters. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 10, March 25 and 27, 2003.)

WITNESS:

From the Canadian Marine Manufacturers Association:

J.A. (Sandy) Currie, Executive Director.

Mr. Currie made a statement and answered questions.

At 8:21 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.
