The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs met this day at 6:09 p.m. in camera, pursuant to Senate rule 92(2)(f), in room 160-S of the Centre Block, the Chairman, the Honourable Peter A. Stollery, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Corbin, Grafstein, Graham, P.C., Losier-Cool and Stollery (6).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Day (1).
Also present: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Peter Berg, Analyst.
In accordance with the order of reference passed by the Senate on Thursday November 21, 2002, the committee continued its examination of the Canada-United States of America trade relationship and the Canada-Mexico trade relationship, with particular emphasis on: a) the 1988 Free Trade Agreement; b) the 1992 North American Free Trade Agreement; c) secure access for Canadian goods and services to the United States of America and Mexico; and d) the development of effective dispute resolution mechanisms, all in the context of Canada's economic relations with countries of the Americas and the World Trade Organization's Doha Round of trade negotiations.
The committee considered a draft report.
It was agreed — That committee members submit their comments on the draft report no later than Thursday October 30, 2003.
It was agreed — That the committee tentatively meet on Monday November 3, 2003 to discuss the adoption of the draft report.
At 6:51 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

In accordance with the order of reference passed by the Senate on Thursday November 21, 2002, the committee proceeded with its examination of the Canada-United States of America trade relationship and the Canada-Mexico trade relationship, with particular emphasis on: a) the 1988 Free Trade Agreement; b) the 1992 North American Free Trade Agreement; c) secure access for Canadian goods to the United States of America and Mexico; and d) the development of effective dispute resolution mechanisms, all in the context of Canada's economic relations with countries of the Americas and the World Trade Organization's Doha Round of trade negotiations.
The committee resumed its consideration of a draft report.
It was agreed — That the committee adopt an interim report on the impact of the exchange rate on the Canada- United States of America trade relationship, subject to the changes, modifications and observations of members, and That the Chair table the interim report to the Senate.
At 6:12 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
