The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day at 5:45 p.m. to give clause-by-clause consideration to Bill S-8, concerning personal watercraft in navigable waters.

The Chairman: Honourable senators, I call the meeting to order.

This will be a two-part meeting. The first part is in public as we do clause-by-clause consideration of Bill S-8.

Honourable senators, is it agreed that we go to consideration, on a clause-by-clause basis, of Bill S-8?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: It is agreed, honourable senators, that the committee move to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill S-8, concerning personal watercraft in navigable waters, which we have studied?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Shall the title stand postponed?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Shall the preamble stand postponed?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Shall clause 1, which is the short title, stand postponed?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Shall clauses 2 to 9 carry?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Shall clauses 10 and 11 carry?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Shall clause 1 carry?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Shall the preamble carry?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Shall the title carry?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Is it agreed that this bill be adopted?

Senator Milne: I so move.

The Chairman: Are all in favour of that motion?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: All those opposed?

The motion is carried.

Senator Spivak: I hope we do not have to do this again.

The Chairman: Twice is better than once.

Is it agreed, honourable senators, that the Chair report this bill at the next sitting of the Senate?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

Senator Milne: Without amendment.

The Chairman: Are all in favour?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: It is agreed. Thank you, honourable senators. Congratulations again, Senator Spivak.

The Chairman: That having been determined, the meeting will now be moving in camera.

The committee continued in camera.
