The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 3:33 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Joan Fraser, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Corbin, Fraser, Gustafson, Johnson, LaPierre, Merchant, and Spivak (7).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Carney, P.C., Munson and Prud'homme, P.C. (3).
In attendance: Allison Padova, Research Officer, Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Friday, February 13, 2004, the committee continued its examination of the current state of Canadian media industries. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the Committee, Issue No. 1, dated February 5, 2004.)
WITNESSES:

Ms. Lise Lareau, President;
Mr. Scott Edmonds, Vice-President, Canadian Press Branch.
From the Periodical Writers Association of Canada (PWAC):
Mr. Michael OReilly, President;
Ms. Doreen Pendgracs, Past Member, PWAC National Executive.
Ms. Lareau, Mr. Edmonds, Mr. OReilly, and Ms. Pendgracs made opening presentations and answered questions.
It was agreed that PWAC's presentation form part of the committee's evidence and be filed as an exhibit with the clerk of the committee (Exhibit 5900-3.37/T1-SS-1, 2"1").
At 5:14 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.
