The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day, at 6 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the Honourable Joyce Fairbairn, P.C. presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Fairbairn, P.C., Kelleher, P. C. Mercer, Tkachuk and Trenholm Counsell (5).

In attendance: Frédéric Forge, Research Branch of the Library of Parliament

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, October 19, 2004, the committee continued its consideration of the present state and the future of agriculture and forestry in Canada. (See Issue No. 1, Tuesday, October 19, 2004, for full text of order of reference.)

WITNESS:

Canadian Meat Council:

Arie Nuys, President;

Jim Laws, Executive Director.

Mr. Nuys and Mr. Laws made statements and answered questions.

At 7 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
