The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day in camera at 9:35 a.m., in the Woodbine Room, Calgary Marriott, Calgary, Alberta, the Chair, the Honourable Colin Kenny, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Atkins, Cordy, Forrestall, Kenny, Meighen, Munson and Nolin (7).
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: William Price, Analyst; Major General (Ret'd) Keith McDonald, Senior Military Advisor; Inspector Harold O'Connell, RCMP Liaison Officer; Barry Denofsky, National Security Advisor; Captain (N) Kelly Williams, DND Liaison Officer; and Maurice Dessureault, Military Advisor.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 20, 2004, the committee continued its examination on the need for a national security policy for Canada. (See Issue No. 1, Monday, October 25, 2004, of the committee's proceedings for the full text of the Order of Reference.)
In accordance with rule 92(2)(e), the committee considered its draft agenda.
At 10:25 a.m., the committee suspended its sitting.
At 10:34 a.m., the committee resumed its sitting in public in the Kensington Room.
