The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met in camera this day at 8:30 a.m., in room 7, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Colin Kenny, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Atkins, Banks, Cordy, Kenny, Mercer, Munson, Nolin and Oliver (8).
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: William Price and Brigadier- General (Ret'd) Jim Cox, Analysts; Major General (Ret'd) Keith McDonald, Senior Military Advisor; Barry Denofsky, National Security Advisor; Sergeant Harold O'Connell, RCMP Liaison Officer; and Captain (N) Kenneth Stewart, DND Liaison Officer.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 20, 2004, the committee continued its examination on the need for a national security policy for Canada. (See Issue No. 1, Monday, October 25, 2004, of the committee's proceedings for the full text of the Order of Reference.)
In accordance with rule 92(2)(e), the committee considered its draft agenda.
At 9:00 a.m., the committee suspended its sitting.
At 9:03 a.m., the committee resumed its sitting in public in room 2, Victoria Building.

Colonel N.J. Anderson, Director of NATO Policy;
Colonel J.R.M.G. Laroche, J3 International.
The Chair made an opening statement.
Colonel Anderson and Colonel Laroche made a presentation and answered questions.
At 10:04 p.m., the committee suspended its sitting.
At 10:30 p.m., the committee resumed its sitting in camera in room 7, Victoria Building.
At 11:38 p.m., the committee suspended its sitting.
At 1:23 p.m., the committee resumed its sitting in camera in room 705, Victoria Building to consider a draft report.
It was moved by the Honourable Senator Cordy that the Committee Clerk limit the distribution of the in camera transcript from May 2, 2005 to committee members and members of the Committee's secretariat; and
That the committee clerk collect and destroy all paper and electronic copies upon tabling of the report.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 5:47 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
