The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day in camera at 11:10 a.m., in room 7, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Colin Kenny, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Atkins, Forrestall, Kenny, Mercer and Munson (5).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Day (1).
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: William Price and Brigadier- General (Ret'd) Jim Cox, Analysts; Major General (Ret'd) Keith McDonald, Senior Military Advisor; Barry Denofsky, National Security Advisor; Inspector Harold O'Connell, RCMP Liaison Officer; Captain (N) Peter Hoes and Colonel Pierre Boucher, DND Liaison Officers.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 20, 2004, the committee continued its examination on the need for a national security policy for Canada. (See Issue No. 1, Monday, October 25, 2004, of the committee's proceedings for the full text of the Order of Reference.)
In accordance with rule 92(2)(e), the committee considered its draft agenda.
At 11:28 a.m., the committee suspended its sitting.
At 11:30 a.m., the committee resumed its sitting in public in room 2.

Lieutenant-General Marc J. Dumais, Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff.
Lieutenant-General Dumais made a statement and answered questions.
At 1:05 p.m., the committee suspended its sitting.
At 1:10 p.m., the committee resumed its sitting in camera in room 7.
In accordance with rule 92(2)(e), the committee considered its draft agenda.
At 2:04 p.m., the committee suspended its sitting.
At 2:05 p.m., the committee resumed its sitting in public in room 2.
