The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 9:35 a.m., this day, in room 705, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Donald H. Oliver, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Biron, Cools, Day, Downe, Ferretti Barth, Harb, Murray, P.C., Oliver and Ringuette (9).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Phalen (1).

In attendance: Guy Beaumier, Research Officer, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 14, 2005, the committee began its consideration of Bill C-30, An Act to amend the Parliament of Canada Act and the Salaries Act and to make consequential amendments to other acts.

APPEARING:

The Honourable Tony Valeri, P.C., M.P., Leader of the Government in the House of Commons.

WITNESSES:

Privy Council Office:

Wayne McCutcheon, Deputy Secretary to the cabinet, Senior Personnel and Special Projects Secretariat;

Ginette Bougie, Director, Compensation Policy and Operations, Senior Personnel and Special Projects Secretariat.

The Chair made a statement.

Mr. Valeri made a statement and, together with Mr. McCuthcheon, answered questions. Ms. Bougie answered questions.

At 11:03 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
