The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day, in camera, at 11:03 a.m., in room 356-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Gerald J. Comeau, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Comeau, De Bané, Hubley, Mahovlich, St. Germain P.C., and Watt (7).
In attendance: Claude Emery, Research Analyst, Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 28, 2004, the committee continued its examination of issues relating to the federal government's new and evolving policy framework for managing Canada's fisheries and oceans. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1, dated October 7, 2004.)
The committee considered its agenda pursuant to rule 92(2)(e).
At 11:44 a.m., the committee resumed in public.
The committee considered the following draft budget application for is study of the federal government's framework for managing Canada fisheries and oceans.
Professional and Other Services $ 20,000 Transportation and Communications 236,937 All Other Expenditures 7,000 Total $ 263,937
The Honourable Senator Watt moved that the Committee adopt the draft budget application for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.
After debate, the question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The Honourable Senator St. Germain, P.C., moved that the Chair and Deputy Chair be authorized to make minor necessary adjustments to the budget application without substantially affecting its content.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 11:44 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Comeau, Downe, Hubley, and Watt (5).

Mr. Mirau made a statement and answered questions.
It was agreed that the documents tabled by Mr. Mirau with the Clerk of the Committee be filed as exhibits, as follows:
