The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs met this day at 5:57 p.m. in room 160-S of the Centre Block, the Chairman, the Honourable Peter A. Stollery, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Corbin, Di Nino, Downe, Eyton, Mahovlich, Prud'homme, P.C., Robichaud, P.C. and Stollery (8).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Poy (1).
Also present: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Peter Berg, Blayne Haggart and Michael Holden, analysts.
In attendance: The official Senate reporters.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday December 8, 2004, the committee continued its study on the development and security challenges facing Africa; the response of the international community to enhance that continent's development and political stability; Canadian foreign policy as it relates to Africa; and other related matters. Colonel Denis Thompson, Director, Peacekeeping Policy.
Ms. Bourcier, Mr. Hunt and Colonel Thompson made presentations and answered questions.
At 7:32 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

At 5:35 p.m., the committee resumed sitting in camera, pursuant to rule 92(2)(f).
The committee considered a draft agenda.
The Honourable Senator Di Nino moved:
That the committee adopt the draft budget for its study on foreign relations in general, and that the Chair submit said budget to the Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration for its approval:

After debate, the question being put on motion, it was adopted.
