The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs met this day at 5:03 p.m. in room 160-S of the Centre Block, the Chairman, the Honourable Peter Stollery, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Corbin, Di Nino, Grafstein, Mahovlich, Prud'homme, P.C., Robichaud, P.C. and Stollery (7).
Also present: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Peter Berg, Analyst.
In attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday December 8, 2004, the committee continued to examine the development and security challenges facing Africa; the response of the international community to enhance that continent's development and political stability; Canadian foreign policy as it relates to Africa; and other matters related thereto. The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs met this day at 4:13 p.m. in camera, pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), in room 160-S of the Centre Block, the Chairman, the Honourable Peter A. Stollery, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Corbin, Di Nino, Robichaud, P.C. and Stollery (4).
Also present: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Peter Berg, Analyst.
The committee examined a draft agenda.
It was agreed —, That a fact-finding mission be sent to Africa in October.
It was agreed —, That Sub-Saharan Africa be the focal point of the study.
It was agreed —, That the Steering Committee make decisions with respect to the fact-finding mission.
The Honourable Senator Corbin moved —, That the Committee adopt the proposed budget for its special study of Canada's International Policy Statement and that the Chair submit the following budget to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration for approval:

Other expenses | $ 500 |
TOTAL | $ 5,500 |
Following debate and the question being put on the motion, it was resolved in the affirmative.
