The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met this day, at 4:18 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the Honourable Senator Lise Bacon, Chair, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bacon, Cools, Eyton, Joyal, P.C, Mercer, Milne, Pearson, Ringuette, Rivest, Sibbeston and Stratton (11).
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament, Margaret Young, Analyst.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
The committee considered the following budget for legislation for 2005-06:
Summary of Expenditures
Professional and Other Services | $ 45,000 |
Transportation and Communications | $ 25,320 |
All Other Expenditures | $ 2,000 |
TOTAL | $ 72,320 |
The Honourable Senator Eyton moved the adoption of the budget.
After debate, the question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The committee considered the following budget for its study on the inclusion of non-derogation clauses in legislation:
Summary of Expenditures
Professional and Other Services | $ 11,000 |
Transportation and Communications | $ 0 |
All Other Expenditures | $ 3,000 |
TOTAL | $ 14,000 |
The Honourable Senator Sibbeston moved the adoption of the budget.
After debate, the question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The committee considered the following budget for its study on declaring Ottawa to be a bilingual city:
Summary of Expenditures
Professional and Other Services | $ 6,000 |
Transportation and Communications | $ 0 |
All Other Expenditures | $ 3,000 |
TOTAL | $ 9,000 |
The Honourable Senator Milne moved the adoption of the budget.
After debate, the question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 4:30 p.m., in accordance with rule 92(2)(e), the committee proceeded in camera to consider a draft agenda.
At 5:05 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
