The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met at 5:05 p.m., this day, in room 256-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Eymard G. Corbin, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Buchanan, P.C., Chaput, Comeau, Corbin and Léger (5).

Also present: The Honourable Senator Losier-Cool.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Marie-Ève Hudon.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 21, 2004, the committee began its study on the Annual Report of the Commissioner of Official Languages 2003-04, tabled in the Senate on October 19, 2004.

WITNESSES:

Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages:

Dyane Adam, Commissioner;

Gérard Finn, Advisor to the Commissioner;

Louise Guertin, Director General, Corporate Services Branch;

Michel Robichaud, Director General, Investigations Branch;

Johane Tremblay, Director, Legal Services Directorate.

Ms. Adam made an opening statement and, together with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 6:17 p.m., the committee suspended its sitting.

At 6:33 p.m., the committee resumed its sitting.

At 7:07 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
