The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day at 4:05 p.m., in camera, in room 256-S, Centre Block, the Chairman, the Honourable Eymard G. Corbin, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Buchanan, C.P., Chaput, Comeau, Corbin, Jaffer, Léger and Murray, P.C. (7).
In attendance: Andrée Tremblay and Wade Raaflaub, Analysts, Research Branch, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate Wednesday, November 3, 2004, the committee resumed consideration, in order to report on it from time to time, of the application of the Official Languages Act and of the regulations and directives made under it, within those institutions subject to the act.
Pursuant to rule 92(2)(f) the committee examined a draft report.
It was agreed that senators' staff would remain in the room while the committee met in camera.
At 5:50 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

It was agreed that senators' staff would remain in the room while the committee sat in camera.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, November 3, 2004, the committee resumed consideration, in order to report on it from time to time, of the application of the Official Languages Act and of the regulations and directives made under it, within those institutions subject to the act.
Pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), the committee examined a draft report.
It was agreed:
That the committee adopt the interim report on French-language education in a minority setting, entitled "French-Language Education in a Minority Setting: A Continuum from Early Childhood to the Post-Secondary Level";
That the Chairman and Deputy Chairman be authorized to make the changes that were discussed and approved by the members, as well as the minor typographical and grammatical corrections deemed necessary, without however modifying the tenor of the report;
That the Chairman table his report in the Senate, ask for its adoption and that a complete and detailed response be made by the government pursuant to Rule 131(2), the Minister of Canadian Heritage, the Minister of Social Development, the Minister of Justice and the Minister responsible for Official Languages being responsible for responding.
At 5:48 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
