The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day, at 9:35 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Joan Fraser, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chaput, Fraser, Johnson, Munson, Phalen and Tkachuk (6).
In attendance: Terry Thomas, Research Analyst, Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, October 19, 2004, the committee continued its examination of the current state of Canadian media industries. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1, dated October 7, 2004.)

Mr. Hurst began a statement.
At 9:40 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 9:50 a.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Hurst continued his statement and, with Mr. Haberstroh and Ms. MacDonald, answered questions.
At 11:22 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 7, 2005, the committee continued its examination of Bill S-31, An Act to authorize the construction and maintenance of a bridge over the St. Lawrence River and a bridge over the Beauharnois Canal for the purpose of completing Highway 30. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 20, dated June 7, 2005.)

The Chair read a letter from the Honourable Michel Després, Minister of Transport for the Province of Quebec.
Ms. Marcoux, and Messrs. Woods and Dickey answered questions.
It was agreed that the committee proceed to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill S-31, An Act to authorize the construction and maintenance of a bridge over the St. Lawrence River and a bridge over the Beauharnois Canal for the purpose of completing Highway 30.
It was agreed that the title stand postponed.
It was agreed that clause 1 stand postponed.
It was agreed that clauses 2 to 5 carry.
It was agreed that clause 1 carry.
It was agreed that the title carry.
It was agreed that the bill carry.
It was agreed that the bill be reported to the Senate.
At 6:31 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 6:33 p.m., the committee resumed in camera, pursuant to rule 92(2)(e) and, pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, October 19, 2004, considered its agenda relating to its examination of the current state of Canadian media industries.
