The Special Senate Committee on the Anti-terrorism Act met in camera at 1:06 p.m., this day, in room 160-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable David P. Smith, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Day, Fairbairn, P.C., Fraser, Jaffer, Joyal, P.C., Kinsella, Nolin and Smith, P.C. (9).
In attendance: Wade Riordan Raaflaub and Jennifer Bird, Analysts, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, May 2, 2006, the committee continued its comprehensive review of the provisions and operation of the Anti-terrorism Act (S.C. 2001, c. 41). (For complete text of the Order of Reference see Issue No. 1 of the proceedings of the committee.)
It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room for the in camera meeting.
Pursuant to rule 92(2)(f) the committee considered a draft report.
At 3:50 p.m., the committee proceeded in public to consider a draft budget.
The Honourable Senator Jaffer moved that the following draft budget application for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2007 be adopted and submitted to the Standing Senate Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration:
Professional and Other Services $ 12,500 Transportation and Communications 3,000 All Other Expenditures 3,000 Total $ 18,500
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 4:00 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
