The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met at 4:10 p.m., this day, in room 9, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Jerahmiel S. Grafstein, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Biron, Goldstein, Grafstein, Moore, Nancy Ruth and Tkachuk (7).

In attendance: Philippe Bergevin, Research Officers, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Ordre of Reference adopted by the Senate on May 2, 2006, the committee continued its study on issues dealing with interprovincial barriers to trade. (For complete text of the order of reference, see Proceedings of the Committee, Issue No. 5)

WITNESSES:

Michel Girard, Director.

Industry Canada:

Ron Parker, Visiting Senior Assistant Deputy Minister;

Philip Morrison, Senior Analyst, Internal Trade.

Canadian Council of Chief Executives:

David Stewart-Patterson, Executive Vice-President.

Certified General Accountants' Association of Canada:

Carole Presseault, Vice-President.

At 4:15 p.m., Mr. Girard and Mr. Parker each made a statement and, together with the other witness, answered questions.

At 5:15 p.m., Mr. Stewart-Patterson and Ms. Presseault each made a statement and answered questions.

At 6:05 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
