The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day at 8:07 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Tommy Banks, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Angus, Banks, Cochrane, Dawson, Kenny, Mitchell, Robichaud, P.C., Spivak and Tkachuk (10).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Cowan, Gustafson and St-Germain, P.C. (3).
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Lynne Myers, Sam Banks and Frédéric Beauregard-Tellier, Analysts.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 29, 2007, the committee began its study on Bill C-288, to ensure Canada meets its global climate change obligations under the Kyoto Protocol.
APPEARING:
The Honourable John Baird, P.C., M.P., Minister of the Environment.
WITNESSES:
Pablo Rodriguez, M.P., House of Commons.
Environment Canada:
Michael Horgan, Deputy Minister.
The Chair made an opening statement.
Mr. Rodriguez made a presentation and answered questions.
At 8:50 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 9:00 a.m., the committee resumed.
The Honourable John Baird, P.C., M.P., made a presentation and, with Mr. Horgan, answered questions.
The Chair made a closing statement.
At 10:18 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
