The Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights met this day, at 4:03 p.m., in room 257 East Block, the Honourable Raynell Andreychuk, Chair, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Carstairs, P.C., Kinsella, Lovelace Nicholas, Mercer, Munson, Nancy Ruth and Zimmer (8).
In attendance: Laura Barnett, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 27, 2006, the committee continued its consideration of Canada's international obligations in regard to the rights and freedoms of children. (For complete text of Order of Reference see Proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)
WITNESSES:
Assembly of First Nations:
Angus Toulouse, Ontario Regional Chief;
Jonathan Thompson, Director, Social Development, Education and Languages.
Chief Toulouse made a statement and together with the other witness answered questions.
At 5:17 p.m., the committee was suspended.
At 5:25 p.m., pursuant to Rule 92(2)(e) the committee proceeded in camera to discuss its future draft agenda.
At 5:56 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
