The Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights has the honour to present its

NINTH REPORT

Your Committee, which was authorized by the Senate on Thursday, April 27, 2006, to examine cases of alleged discrimination in the hiring and promotion practices of the Federal Public Service and to study the extent to which targets to achieve employment equity for minority groups are being met, respectfully requests for the purpose of this study that it be empowered to engage the services of such counsel, technical, clerical and other personnel as may be necessary.

Pursuant to Chapter 3:06, section 2(1)(c) of the Senate Administrative Rules, the budget submitted to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration and the report thereon of that Committee are appended to this report.

Extract from the Journals of the Senate of Thursday, April 27, 2006.

The Honourable Senator Andreychuk moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator Keon

That the Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights be authorized to examine cases of alleged discrimination in the hiring and promotion practices of the Federal Public Service and to study the extent to which targets to achieve employment equity for minority groups are being met;

That the papers and evidence received and taken on the subject during the thirty-eighth Parliament be referred to the Committee; and

That the Committee continue to monitor developments on the subject and submit a final report to the Senate no later than March 31, 2008.

The motion as amended was adopted.
