Extract from the Journals of the Senate, Thursday, October 19, 2006:

Resuming debate on the motion of the Honourable Senator Corbin, seconded by the Honourable Senator Bryden:

That the Senate should recognize the inalienable right of the first inhabitants of the land now know as Canada to use their ancestral language to communicate for any purpose; and

That, to facilitate the expression of this right, the Senate should immediately take the necessary administrative and technical measures so that senators wishing to use their ancestral language in this house may do so.

After debate,

The Honourable Senator Comeau moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator Corbin:

That the question be referred to the Standing Committee on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
