The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met in camera this day, at 6:15 p.m., in room 256-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Lise Bacon, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Bacon, Dawson, Eyton, Merchant, Munson, Phalen, Tkachuk and Zimmer (9).

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament, Allison Padova and Terrence Thomas, Analysts.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 11, 2006, the committee continued its consideration on the containerized freight traffic handled by Canada's ports. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain for the in camera meeting.

Pursuant to rule 92(2)e, the committee considered a draft agenda.

At 7:15 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day, at 9:30 a.m., in room 257, East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Lise Bacon, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Bacon, Dawson, Eyton, Munson, Phalen, Tkachuk and Zimmer (8).

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament, Terrence Thomas, Analyst.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, September 26, 2006, the committee began its consideration on the New Fees for Services Provided by Industry Canada Relating to Telecommunications and Radio Apparatus, pursuant to the User Fees Act, S.C. 2004, c. 6, sbs. 4(2). — Sessional Paper No.1/39-391.

WITNESSES:

Industry Canada:

Claude Beaudoin, Lab Director, Certification, Engineering Bureau;

Efrain Guevara, Manager, Interconnection Standards, Telecom Engineering and Certification;

Glenn Sheskay, Counsel, Department of Justice Canada.

Mr. Beaudoin made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 10:15 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
