The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day, at 6:45 p.m., in room 256-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Lise Bacon, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bacon, Champagne, P.C., Comeau, Dawson, Mercer, Munson, Phalen, Tkachuk and Zimmer (9).

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament, Allison Padova, Analyst.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, October 24, 2006, the committee began its consideration of Bill C-3, respecting international bridges and tunnels and making a consequential amendment to another act.

The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, P.C., M.P., Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities

WITNESSES:

Transport Canada:

Evelyn Marcoux, Director General, Surface Infrastructure Programs;

Brian E.Hicks, Director, Bridge Policy and Programs;

Alain Langlois, Counsel, Legal Services.

The minister made an opening statement and, together with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 8:05 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
