The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day, at 9:35 a.m., in room 257, East Block, the Honourable David Tkachuk, Deputy Chair, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Dawson, Mercer, Merchant, Munson, Tkachuk and Zimmer (7).
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament, Allison Padova, Analyst.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, Mach 28, 2007, the committee continued its consideration of Bill C-11, to amend the Canada Transportation Act and the Railway Safety Act and to make consequential amendments to other acts. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 12.)

Mr. Shouldice made an opening statement and answered questions.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, Mach 28, 2007, the committee continued its consideration of Bill C-11, to amend the Canada Transportation Act and the Railway Safety Act and to make consequential amendments to other scts. Claude Mongeau, Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer;
Jean Patenaude, Assistant General Counsel.
Mr. McNaney and Mr. Galimberti each made opening statements and, together, answered questions.
At 7:30 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 7:35 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Mackey and Mr. Mongeau each made opening statements and, together with Mr. Patenaude, answered questions.
The committee considered the following supplementary budget for its examination of containerized freight traffic handled by Canada's ports for 2007-2008:

Professional and Other Services $ 800 Transportation and Communications $ 39,624 All Other Expenditures — TOTAL $ 40,424
The Honourable Senator Tkachuk moved that the supplementary budget be adopted.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
