The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day in room 2, Victoria Building, at 3:30 p.m., for the purpose of the election of a Chair.
Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Atkins, Day and Kenny (3).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senator Banks, Moore and Zimmer (3).
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
The Honourable Senator Day informed senators of his resignation as deputy chair.
The clerk of the subcommittee presided over the election of the chair.
The Honourable Senator Atkins moved that the Honourable Senator Day be chair of the subcommittee.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The Honourable Senator Day assumed the chair and made opening remarks.
The Honourable Senator Kenny moved that the Honourable Senator Atkins be deputy chair of this subcommittee.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 3:35 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 11, 2006, the subcommittee continued its study on the services and benefits provided to veterans in recognition of their services to Canada. Donald Elliott, Chairman of the Toronto Branch.
The Chair made an opening statement.
Brigadier-General (ret'd) Daley, Lieutenant-Colonel (ret'd) Black, Mr. Elliott and Lieutenant-General (ret'd) Carr each made a presentation and answered questions.
The Chair made a closing statement.
At 1:30 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Atkins, Day and Kenny (3).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Banks and Moore (2).
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Melissa Radford and Jason Yung, Analyst; Major-General (ret) Keith MacDonald, Senior Military Advisory, Captain (N) John Gardan, DND Liaison Officer, Inspector Richard Haye, RCMP Liaison Officer and Jodi Turner, Committee Clerk.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 11, 2006, the subcommittee continued its study on the services and benefits provided to veterans in recognition of their services to Canada.
Pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee proceeded to consider a draft report.
It was moved by the Honourable Senator Kenny, that the draft report be adopted and reported as amended to the Standing Committee on National Security and Defence.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 4:00 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
