The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met at 7:11 p.m., this day, in room 9, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Joyce Fairbairn, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Fairbairn, P.C., Mahovlich, Peterson and St. Germain, P.C. (5).
In attendance: Marc Leblanc and Marc-André Pigeon, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 the committee continued its consideration of rural poverty in Canada. (For complete text of order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)
WITNESSES:
Association of Canadian Community:
Terry Anne Boyles, Vice-President.
Canadian Network for Innovation in Education:
Anna Sawicki, Secretary-Treasurer.
The chair made an opening statement.
Ms. Boyle and Ms. Sawicki each made a statement and, together, they answered questions.
At 8:38 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 8:44 p.m., pursuant to rule 92(2)(e) the committee resumed and proceeded in camera to consider its agenda (future business).
It was agreed that the committee affirm the decision of the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure of November 29, 2007 that the chair be authorized, pursuant to section 1, Chapter 6.01 of the Senate Administrative Rules, to request approval from the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration for acquisition without tender in regards to charter flights for the committee's trip to the Territories.
At 8:55 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.

Lakeside Farm Industries — Tyson Foods:
Jeff Rosgen, President.
Mr. Raymond made a statement and, together with Mr. Rosgen, they answered questions.
At 9:59 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 10:05 a.m., pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee resumed and proceeded in camera to consider its draft report.
It was agreed that the committee adopt the interim report entitled: Livestock Industry.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 10:23 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
