The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met at 8:07 a.m., this day, in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joyce Fairbairn, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chaput, Fairbairn, P.C., Mahovlich, Mercer (4).
In attendance: Frédéric Forge and Mathieu Frigon, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 20, 2007, the committee continued its consideration of the present state and future of agriculture and forestry in Canada. (For complete text of order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)
WITNESSES:
Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (by video conference):
Ali Gürkan, Chief, Trade and Markets Division;
Abdolreza Abbassian, Economist (Commodities).
The chair made an opening statement.
Mr. Gürkan made a statement and together with Mr. Abbassian, answered questions.
At 9:12 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 9:21 a.m., the committee resumed and pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), proceeded in camera to consider its future agenda.
At 9:40 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
