The Subcommittee on Population Health met this day at 4:05 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Wilbert J. Keon, presiding.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable senators Brown, Callbeck, Cochrane, Cook, Fairbairn, P.C., Keon, and Pépin (7).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Eggleton, P.C. (1).

In attendance: Odette Madore and Michael Toye, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 20, 2007, the committee continued its examination on the social determinants of health.

WITNESSES:

Groupe d'étude sur les politiques et la santé (GÉPPS):

France Gagnon, PhD, Professor and Co-chair.

Université de Montréal:

Nicole Bernier, PhD, Assistant Professor.

Ms Gagnon and Ms Bernier each made a statement and responded to questions.

At 5:55 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.

The Subcommittee on Population Health met this day at 9:05 a.m., in Room 356-S Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Wilbert J. Keon, presiding.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Brown, Callbeck, Cochrane, Cook, Fairbairn P.C., Keon, and Pépin (7).

Dr. Fiona Adshead, Director General of Health Improvement.

Dr. Adshead made an opening statement and responded to questions.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Cochrane, Cook, Fairbairn P.C., Keon, and Pépin (6).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Munson.

B.C. Interior Health Authority:

Lex Baas, Director of Population Health.

University of British Columbia:

James Frankish, Professor and Program Director.

Mr. Baas and Mr. Frankish each made a statement and responded to questions.

At 4:35 p.m., the Honourable Senator Keon took the chair.

At 5:53 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:55 p.m., the committee resumed.

Pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee proceeded in camera to consider a draft agenda.

At 6:05 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
