The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met in camera this day, at 10:03 a.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Lise Bacon, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Bacon, Dawson, Johnson, Merchant, Oliver, Phalen, Tkachuk and Zimmer (9).

In attendance: Allison Padova and Terrence Thomas, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, November 14, 2007, the committee continued its consideration of containerized freight traffic handled by Canada's ports. (For complete text of order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

Pursuant to rule 92(2) (e), the committee considered its draft agenda (future business).

It was agreed, that with regards to the committee's fact-finding mission in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, the budget of the committee be amended to include in the list of participants a communication officer.

At 10:12 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.

The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day, at 6:17 p.m., in room 256-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Lise Bacon, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bacon, Eyton, Fox, P.C., Johnson, Massicotte, Merchant and Oliver (7).

In attendance: John Christopher and Terrence Thomas, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, November 14, 2007, the committee continued its consideration of containerized freight traffic handled by Canada's ports. (For complete text of order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

WITNESSES:

Canadian Tire Corporation:

Patrick R. Sinnott, Senior Vice-President, Supply Chain;

Caroline Casselman, Director, Community and Public Affairs.

Mr. Sinnott made a statement and, with the assistance of Ms. Casselman, answered questions.

At 7:17 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
