The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met in camera this day, at 6:25 p.m., in room 256-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Lise Bacon, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bacon, Dawson, Eyton, Mercer, Merchant, Oliver, Tkachuk and Zimmer (8).
In attendance: John Christopher and Terrence Thomas, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, November 14, 2007, and modified on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, the committee continued its consideration of containerized freight traffic handled by Canada's ports.
Pursuant to rule 92(2)(e) the committee considered a draft report.
At 8 p.m. the committee continued its deliberations in public.
The committee considered the following special study budget application (containerized freight traffic handled by Canada's ports):
Summary of Expenditures
Professional and Other Services $ 4,500 Transportation and Communications $ 500 All Other Expenditures $ 2,000 TOTAL $ 7,000
It was agreed, that the special study budget application (containerized freight traffic handled by Canada's ports) in the amount of $7,000 be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.
The committee considered the following legislative budget application:
Summary of Expenditures
Professional and Other Services $ 10,000 Transportation and Communications $ 8,000 All Other Expenditures $ 2,000 TOTAL $ 20,000
It was agreed that the legislative budget application in the amount of $20,000 be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.
At 8:03 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Bacon, Dawson, Eyton, Johnson, Mercer, Oliver and Tkachuk (8).
In attendance: John Christopher and Terrence Thomas, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Mrs. Ell made a statement and, with Mr. Schiller, answered questions.
At 7:20 pm., the Honourable Senator Mercer gave an update of his recent trip to Sidney, Nova Scotia.
At 7:30 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
