The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met in camera this day, at 6:26 p.m., in room 256-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Lise Bacon, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Bacon, Dawson, Eyton, Johnson, Mercer, Tkachuk and Zimmer (8).

In attendance: John Christopher and Terrence Thomas, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, November 14, 2007, and modified on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, the committee continued its consideration of containerized freight traffic handled by Canada's ports.

Pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), the committee considered a draft report.

At 7:17 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, the committee began its consideration of Bill S-221, An Act concerning personal watercraft in navigable waters.

The Honourable Senator Mira Spivak, sponsor of the bill.

Senator Spivak made a statement and answered questions.
