The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 5:10 p.m., in Room 2, Victoria Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Joyce Fairbairn, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cordy, Duffy, Eaton, Fairbairn, P.C., Mahovlich, Mercer, and Rivard (7).
In attendance: Mathieu Frigon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, the committee continued its consideration of the current state and future of Canada's forest sector. (For complete text of order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

BC First Nations Forestry Council:
Keith Atkinson, CEO.
Coast Forest Products Association:

MM. Cameron, Atkinson and Jeffery each made opening statements and, together, answered questions.
At 6:50 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Brazeau, Cordy, Eaton, Fairbairn, P.C., Mahovlich, Mercer, Mockler, Poulin, and Rivard (9).

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, the committee continued its consideration of the current state and future of Canada's forest sector. (For complete text of order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

Canadian Bankers Association:
Terry Campbell, Vice-President, Policy;
Marion G. Wrobel, Director, Market and Regulatory Developments.
Mr. Campbell made an opening statement and, together with Mr. Wrobel, answered questions.
At 9:35 a.m., the committee suspended its sitting.
At 9:37 a.m., pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee proceeded in camera to discuss a draft agenda (future business).
It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room.
At 9:45 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
