The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 5:19 p.m. in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Carignan, Eaton, Fairbairn, P.C., Finley, Lovelace Nicholas, Mahovlich, Mockler and Plett (8).

In attendance: Mathieu Frigon and David Surprenant, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, the committee continued its consideration of the current state and future of Canada's forest sector. (For complete text of order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1)

WITNESSES:

National Research Council of Canada:

Denis Bergeron, Director, Codes and Evaluations;

Philip Rizcallah, Team Coordinator, Canadian Codes Centre.

Mr. Bergeron made an opening statement and, together, the witnesses answered questions.

At 6:41 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.

The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day in camera at 8:10 a.m. in room 705, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Carignan, Eaton, Fairbairn, P.C., Finley, Grafstein, Mahovlich, Meighen, Mockler and Poulin (9).

In attendance: Mathieu Frigon and David Surprenant, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, the committee continued its consideration of the current state and future of Canada's forest sector. (For complete text of order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1)

It was agreed that senators' staff and the communications agent be allowed to stay in the room.

Pursuant to rule 92(2)(f) the committee examined a draft report.

At 10:07 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
