The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 4 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Michael A. Meighen, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Carstairs, P.C., Frum, Gerstein, Greene, Harb, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Massicotte, Meighen, Oliver, Peterson and Ringuette (11).

In attendance: John Bulmer, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, the committee continued its examination of Bill S-232, An Act to amend the Patent Act (drugs for international humanitarian purposes) and to make a consequential amendment to another Act. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 10.)

At 5 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:05 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Williams, Mr. Lucas and Mr. Dearden made statements and, together with Mr. Looper, answered questions.

At 6:14 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.

Mr. Mintz made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:04 a.m., Mr. Mintz made a statement and answered questions.
