The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera this day at 10:35 a.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Bill Rompkey, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cochrane, Cowan, Hubley, MacDonald, Manning, Patterson, Poy, Raine, Robichaud, P.C., and Rompkey, P.C. (10).

In attendance: Claude Emery, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 12, 2009, the committee continued to examine the issues relating to the federal government's current and evolving policy framework for managing Canada's fisheries and oceans. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

Pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), the committee considered a draft report.

It was agreed that the draft report entitled Proposed Changes to the Convention of the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) be adopted, as amended.

It was agreed that the report be tabled in the Senate on this day.

At 11:10 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dallaire, Hubley, MacDonald, Manning, Raine, Robichaud, P.C., Rompkey, P.C., and Watt (8).

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 12, 2009, the committee continued to examine the issues relating to the federal government's current and evolving policy framework for managing Canada's fisheries and oceans. Pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), the committee considered a draft report.

It was agreed that the draft report entitled Controlling Canada's Arctic Waters: Role of the Canadian Coast Guard be adopted, as amended, and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be authorized to approve the final version of the report taking into account the changes discussed today.

At 7:37 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
