The Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights met this day at 2:07 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable A. Raynell Andreychuk, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Brazeau, Dallaire, Demers, Jaffer, Mitchell, Munson, Nancy Ruth and Poy (9).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Milne (1).

In attendance: Julian Walker and Jennifer Bird, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, June 22, 2009, the committee continued its examination of issues of sexual exploitation of children in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 10.)

Canadian Coalition for the Rights of Children:

Kathy Vandergrift, Chair.

Sarah Hunt.

Indian and Northern Affairs Canada:

Mary Quinn, Director General, Social Policy & Programs Branch;

Line Paré, Director General, External Relations & Gender Issues Branch;

John Gordon, Director, Urban Aboriginal Strategy, Office of the Federal Interlocutor.

Public Health Agency of Canada:

Sylvain Segard, Director General, Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Branch;

Kelly Stone, Director, Division of Childhood and Adolescence, Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Branch.

Ms. Wolski, Ms. Vandergrift, Ms. Hunt and Ms. McHugh each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 3:52 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 3:58 p.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. Quinn and Mr. Segard each made a statement and, with Ms. Paré, Mr. Gordon and Ms. Stone, answered questions.

At 5:19 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
