The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met this day at 4:31 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the deputy-chair, the Honourable Pierre Claude Nolin, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Baker, P.C., Bryden, Campbell, Dickson, Joyal, P.C., Milne, Nolin, Wallace and Watt (10).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Banks (1).
In attendance: Carolina Mingarelli, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 26, 2009, the committee continued its consideration of the provisions and operation of the DNA Identification Act (S.C. 1998, c. 37). (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 4.)

The deputy chair made an opening statement.
Ms. Bernier and Mr. Baggaley each made a statement and, together, answered questions.
At 5:38 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 5:41 p.m., the committee resumed.
Ms. Fraser made a statement and, together with Messrs. McRoberts and Stock, answered questions.
At 6:18 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.

The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met this day, in camera, at 4:16 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Joan Fraser, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Baker, P.C., Campbell, Cook, Dickson, Fraser, Joyal, P.C., Milne, Wallace and Watt (10).
In attendance: Jennifer Bird and Robert Dufresne, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, the committee continued its consideration of the provisions and operation of An Act to amend the National Defence Act (court martial) and to make a consequential amendment to another Act (S.C. 2008, c. 29). (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)
Pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), the committee considered a draft report.
It was agreed that the report be adopted, that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be authorized to approve the final version with the agreed editorial changes and that the chair table the report in the Senate.
At 4:40 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
