The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 12:03 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Michael A. Meighen, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Banks, Downe, Kenny, Meighen and Wallin (5).
In attendance: Jim Cox, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 and delegated on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 by the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence, the subcommittee continued its study on the services and benefits provided to veterans, members of the Canadian Forces, the RCMP and its antecedents; and all of their families (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the subcommittee, Issue No. 1).
APPEARING:
The Honourable Gregory Francis Thompson, P.C., M.P., Minister of Veterans Affairs.
WITNESSES:
Veterans Affairs Canada:
Suzanne Tining, Deputy Minister;
Keith Hillier, Assistant Deputy Minister, Service Delivery and Commemoration.
The chair made opening remarks.
Minister Thompson made a statement and, together with Ms. Tining, answered questions.
It was agreed that the subcommittee meet next week to discuss future business.
At 1:18p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the chair.

Pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee considered its draft agenda.
It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room for today's meeting.
