The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 9:32 a.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Gerry St. Germain, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Brazeau, Chaput, Cowan, Lang, Patterson, Poirier, St. Germain, P.C., Sibbeston and Stewart Olsen (9).
In attendance: Tonina Simeone and Shauna Troniak, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, the committee continued its consideration of the federal government's constitutional, treaty, political and legal responsibilities to First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples and other matters generally relating to the Aboriginal Peoples of Canada. The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met, in camera this day, at 6:48 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Gerry St. Germain, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Brazeau, Campbell, Dallaire, Dyck, Patterson, Poirier, Sibbeston, St. Germain, P.C. and Stewart Olsen (9).
In attendance: Tonina Simeone and Shauna Troniak, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 2, 2010, the committee continued to examine the progress made on commitments endorsed by Parliamentarians of both Chambers since the Government's apology to former students of Indian Residential Schools. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 10.)
In accordance with rule 92(2)(f), the committee considered a draft report.
It was moved that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 7:59 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
