The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 4:15 p.m, in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Michael A. Meighen, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Gerstein, Greene, Harb, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Kochhar, Meighen, Moore, Ringuette and St. Germain, P.C. (9).

In attendance: John Bulmer Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, June M. Dewetering, Chief, Macroeconomics, Library of Parliament; and Francine Pressault, Communications Officer, Communication Directorate.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, the committee began its examination of the present state of the domestic and international financial system.

WITNESSES:

Business Development Bank of Canada:

Edmée Métivier, Executive Vice-President, Financing and Consulting;

Peter Lawler, Senior Vice-President, Operations Ontario;

Glenn Egan, Vice-President, ICT, Venture Capital.

Ms. Métivier made a statement and, together with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 6:00 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
