The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 4:15 p.m, in room 9, Victoria Building, the Honourable Céline Hervieux-Payette, P.C., the deputy chair, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Di Nino, Gerstein, Greene, Harb, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Kochhar, Massicotte, Moore, Plett, Ringuette and Seidman (11).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Tkachuk.
In attendance: John Bulmer Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, and June M. Dewetering, Chief, Macroeconomics, Library of Parliament; and Francine Pressault, Communications Officer, Communication Directorate.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 24, 2010, the committee began its examination on the study of the extent to which Canadians are saving in Tax-Free Savings Accounts and registered retirement savings plans.

Mr. Williams made a statement and answered questions.
At 5:30 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 6:18 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
