The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day, at 5:13 p.m., in room 9 Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable W. David Angus, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Banks, Carignan, Lang, Massicotte, McCoy, Mitchell, Neufeld, Peterson, Raine and Seidman (11).

In attendance: Sam Banks and Marc LeBlanc, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; Tracie LeBlanc, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 11, 2010, the committee continued its examination of the current state and future of Canada's energy sector (including alternative energy). (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

APPEARING

The Honourable Christian Paradis, P.C., M.P., Minister of Natural Resources.

WITNESSES:

Malcolm Brown, Associate Deputy Minister;

Carol Buckley, Acting Assistant Deputy Minister, Energy Sector.

The chair made an opening statement.

Minister Paradis made a statement and, together with Mr. Brown and Ms. Buckley, answered questions.
