The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day, at 7:16 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable W. David Angus, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Banks, Dickson, Lang, Massicotte, McCoy, Mitchell, Neufeld, Peterson and Seidman (10).
In attendance: Marc LeBlanc and Sam Banks, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; et Tracie LeBlanc, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 11, 2010, the committee continued its examination of the current state and future of Canada's energy sector (including alternative energy). (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.) (Canadian Offshore oil/gas exploration and drilling: the current status of operations/applicable regulatory rules and regulations.)
WITNESSES:

René Grenier, Deputy Commissioner;
Alex Li, Director, Safety and Environmental Response;
Chantal Guenette, Manager, Environmental Response.
Eastern Canada Response Corporation (ECRC):
James Carson, President and General Manager.
The chair made an opening statement.
Mr. Grenier and Mr. Carson each made a statement and, together with Mr. Li and Ms. Guenette, answered questions.
At 8:49 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 8:55 p.m., the committee, pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), continued in camera to consider a draft report. It was agreed that senators' staff be authorized to remain.
After debate, it was agreed that:
The draft report be adopted as modified;
That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, together with Senator McCoy, be authorized to make editorial revisions of the text and to approve the final text; and
That the chair be authorized to table the report at a future sitting of the Senate.
At 9:34 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
