The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day, at 8:05 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable W. David Angus, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Banks, Brown, Frum, Lang, Martin, Massicotte, Mitchell, Neufeld, Peterson and Seidman (11).

In attendance: Marc LeBlanc and Sam Banks, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; Ceri Au, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 11, 2010, the committee continued its examination of the current state and future of Canada's energy sector (including alternative energy). (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1)

WITNESSES:

Canadian Gas Association:

Timothy M. Egan, President and CEO.

Enbridge Gas Distribution:

Arunas Pleckaitis, Vice-President, Business Development & Customer Strategy.

The chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Egan and Mr. Pleckaitis each made a statement and together, answered questions.

At 10:02 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:04 a.m., pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee resumed in camera for the consideration of a draft agenda (future business). It was agreed that senators' staff be authorized to remain in the room.

At 10:15 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
