The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 5:03 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Bill Rompkey, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cochrane, Hubley, MacDonald, Manning, Nancy Ruth, Patterson, Poirier, Poy, Raine and Rompkey, P.C. (10).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Murray, P.C. (1).
Also present: Claude Emery, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; and Ceri Au, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.
In attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 25, 2010, the committee continued to examine issues relating to the federal government's current and evolving policy framework for managing Canada's fisheries and oceans (Canadian Lighthouses). (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

Larry Ostola, Director General, National Historic Sites;
Darlene Pearson, Director, Policy Branch, National Historic Sites;
Norman Shields, Manager, Heritage Lighthouse Program, Policy Branch, National Historic Sites.
Mr. Ostola made a statement and, together with Ms. Pearson and Mr. Shields, answered questions.
At 6:45 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 6:47 p.m., pursuant to rule 92(2)e), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda.
At 7 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.

Pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), the committee considered a draft report.
It was agreed that the draft report entitled The Management of Fisheries and Oceans in Canada's Western Arctic be adopted and that the chair be authorised to table the report in the Senate and to request a government response.
At 9:45 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
